When Intelligence should matter

Ok, many of you (if not all of you) know that I work in the information technology field. Expounding on this morning’s mini-rant about clients who do not pay attention to emails, why, oh tell me WHY is it that some people actually opened their mouths today and actually said “oh, I read the email and didn’t think it applied to me.”

More than one person today (with advanced degrees) came to my door and said this to me. What about “In accordance to ____ policy, all passwords will expire on November 11, 2005. Passwords must be changed before this date and may be done so with ease by visiting {intranet site} and following the instructions on the screen. If you do not change your password by November 11, 2005, you will be unable to log in” was unclear? What about the warning of “You have X days left to change your password before you will be unable to access the system. Change it now by clicking {intranet site} “?

Did that not give out enough information? Did it not s-p-e-l-l i-t o-u-t? How could it have been any clearer?

Maybe I should have said: “Yo! Change your frickin password NOW or else you will forfeit a paycheck.”

Mention money and they’re all over like flies on fecal material.

All I know is that the clients weren’t very happy with me today because I refused to drop the project I was working on and rush to their aid. There’s a reason they say “Reading Is Fundamental.” I’m tired of subsidising these overpaid brats who think the world revolves around them. If they want to give part of their ill gotten gains to me in order to subsidize my substandard income, we’ll talk. If not, they can wait.

Know what I mean?
