Off to see the father

Posted in Family at 11:55 pm by Think-Tink

I am going up to see my dad and his family this weekend.  I will be back on Monday sometime.

What a way to start a holiday weekend!

I had another date with JA tonight.  It was really nice.  We ate, we talked, and we had none of those awkward silences.  I did have to explain about the weird people being around me and wanting to talk.  Good thing he is ok with it.

We walked along the beach also.  It was a beautiful night.  Electrical lightening, nice breeze and not extremely hot.

The funniest part was when I went to drop him off at his car after him walking me to mine.  We kissed good night (he is a good kisser!) and had a problem stopping the kiss, we figured we should try to stop when the cops walked by.  Oh, did I mention I was sort of blocking traffic?  When the cop car came by we figured we really should stop.

I’ll be seeing him again :)

We got even more rain today!  This needs to stop.

Why is it that sometimes you can sleep through everything and other times that the slightest noise wakes you up?

Why is it that some days, people breathing frustrates you?

If it has rained so hard, why hasn’t it washed off my car?

I would love for the tv show What not to wear come and help me make over my wardrobe.

I shaved my legs tonight, why do I feel stubble already?

I have traveled more in the last 6 weeks than I have in the past year.

Sad day in ODU history

Posted in Sports at 10:03 pm by Think-Tink

I went to a sock hop tonight as the last event ever in the Field House.  If you know anything about ODU, the Field House was where our women’s basketball team dominated for many years.  Oh, the memories.  DG being a week old at her first game, Piper Dude coming to games with his mother and me, while we were in school there.  Sitting upstairs, so that we didnt have to walk over as many people.  The horrors of the tickets actually having an assigned seat rather than just general seating.  The kids playing in the area in back of us where we could still watch them.  Me taking the girls for walks as 2 hours is a long time for 3 year olds to sit.  I had some really good times there.

Tonight, the Field House was kind of the same but it looked sad.  It is going to be renovated, which it desperately needs (there were urinals in the women’s restrooms well into the ’90′s.  The air conditioning has already been cut and most of the offices moved.  Banners and trophies are over in the Constant Convocation Center now.

I could see where the building is not used much anymore.  It will become a Rec Center and be updated.  I will probably cry when I hear them start to do the demolition.

Opposites Attract.  from SB…
1. Would you rather suffer from narcolepsy or insomnia?

My ex-husband would say I am narcoleptic.   In some ways I would prefer to be an insomniac.  At some point your body should take over and make you sleep.
2. Which platform do you prefer, Apple or PC?

Having never worked on an Apple, I would have to say a PC.

3. Would you rather watch a movie in the cinema or on DVD?

DVD more freedom for me.  I can stop and get food or whatever.

4. Would you rather eat in the dining room or in the restaurant?

REstaurant!  someone else cooks AND washes the dishes.
5. Would you rather drive in the country or in the city? (Remember, mileage may vary)

City,  more to look at.

6. Would you rather talk on the phone or IM on the computer?

IM.  At least until I understand and get a microphone to make the phone work.

7. Would you rather visit an old friend or have an old friend visit you?

I would rather visit with an old friend.  Keep them in their comfort zone.

8. Would you rather date someone who is honest with you or someone that does things subversively?

Honesty is the best policy

9. Would you rather dress up or dress down?

I enjoy both.  I am dress down quite a bit of the time.

10. Ask me something.

Does this much rain this early mean we are in for a bad hurricane season?

A rant from a while ago continued…

I was in a big book store the other night that wasn’t Borders or Barnes and Noble.  BAM continues it’s ignorance.  Religions?  If you aren’t Christian, don’t look under religion.  Pagan religions were under New Age still.  Guess where Buddism was…under Philosophy.  I can kind of see that if I stretch really tall on my tippy toes and then some.

It definitely reminded me of why I shop for books used or online.

Rain, Rain go away!

Can’t we see the sun for at least a day?  DC has flooding, we are under a flood watch.  I asked Ms. Peg if we needed to start building arks.  She said yes.  This makes me worried as she is our weather guru at CHK.  She is up on all the hurricane news and everything.

I also need to go away so that this sinus headache I have had for 2 days now will go away.

The rest of the trip…

Thursday evening in San Francisco, we had dinner in a tent in Union Square. Apparently this was quite a feat to get Union Square covered and reserved for just one group. The food was amazing! Shrimp, pasta, carved beef, and chocolate!

Friday was meetings and such. One was on recruiting with limited budgets. Their version of a limited budget and mine are 2 way different things. Their (average of 20 schools) budget was about 10 times of mine. There was an opening speaker that was very good. Even though some of what he says is unrealistic, there are some things about trying to use people’s strengths that can be put into use.

My traveling partner and I skipped the 2nd afternoon session and went shopping. Can you blame us with a 7 story block wide Macy’s across the street? We looked in the windows of Tiffany’s too. Even the Old Navy (which is quicky becoming one of my favorite stores) was 3 stories.

Friday’s dinner was great. More shrimp, crab, sushi, roast beef, and a chocolate fountain. I told SB and PR that we have to add rice crispy treats to our fountain next year. The entertainment was the Starlight Quartet and the San Francsico Gay Men’s Choir. Both were really good.

Saturday, we skipped everything conference wise and went to Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown. I guess at Ghiradelli, I was expecting something like Hershey, but it was mostly little shops and such. I did get some good chocolate though:)

Fisherman’s Wharf was quite busy and mostly restaurants. We ate at Boudin’s, which is the original sourdough bread place. The bread was excellent, so was the clam chowder. Chinatown is like stepping into a whole different world. The signs are mostly in Chinese, and that was the language heard. We found a fortune cookie company and were able to watch the cookies being made. I can tell you that fresh fortune cookies are alot better than the one we get at the restaurants.

We had ridden the cable car from Ghiradelli Square to Chinatown and then back to the hotel. It was a unique experience, and took some getting used to have no doors or anything.

We were on our own for dinner. We asked to conceirge at the hotel, and he sent us to this very expensive place. We left there and went to a diner. They had these amazing things called garlic fries. You can’t be around anyone after eating them, but the fries and garlic and oil was a really good mix!

The hotel we stayed was great as you can see from the pictures Roxette posted.

The trip home was uneventful.

Thursday Thoughts

We are perpetuating a generation of people who don’t think rules are for them.  I have had way too many people start phone calls this week with”I know the deadline was June 1 but can I still get in for the Fall?”

Mother Nature needs to turn her heat lamp down.  Hot and Humid are not how I want the Summer to start.

Why did the phone ring in the office only when I had a real person there?

Who will entertain me tomorrow?  NO SB, Revog or Celtic Mama around.  ( Someone should call me on occasion to make sure I am still awake)  You don’t think I actually want to WORK tomorrow?

Why do I have a mental block about paying for the newspaper?

Do you realize June is almost over?

The yard looks weird without the front hedge.

What is marjoram used in?

I have been taking a break from biking for a few weeks.  It is weird, but I think it is helping.

I want salt and chocolate!
