We thought we had it so bad during Isabel. I can’t imagine what the people in LA, MS and AL are going through.
I would be up a creek in a leaky boat with no paddle if I had to go for 3 months without an income as these folks might have to do.
I like my privacy and running water. Can you imagine being in the Astrodome for 3 months? No privacy, no real comfort, and possibly the few clothes you have with you for 3 months? Even if I weren’t in the Astrodome part of the folks, who would accept me in for 2-3 months? Celtic Mama would but she really doesn’t have the room, Daddy might, maybe, Revog would, but then we are back to what do you do for money while there?
How do you even begin to put in an insurance claim for a car? Ummmm, hello, my car is somewhere under water. Can you help me do something for a new one? I doubt it would even run IF it is found.
These people must be overwhelmed. I know there are alot of fundraisers going on right now, please if you help out in some way. Since none of the countries we helped out in the past (where is France? we helped you recover from WW2, Germany? China?)are offering aid, we need to help ourselves.

The first day of classes is always an adventure for us in the office. I truly can’t believe the amount of people that think to go to classes without actually looking up where they are! The info is online 24 hours a day!
SB and I decided that even though we would have to fight for a spot when we got back, we would get off campus. We decided to have a treat and go to Fellini’s on Colley. We both had the Creole Romano and it was great! Our service was border line satisfactory. The creaole romano has been mentioned several times before here, but for new readers(I know of 1), it is pasta in a cheesy cream sauce with andouille sausage and shrimp. Probably extremely bad for the arteries, but really good.

MR and I went to see March of the Penguins today at the Cinema Cafe in Riverdale. It was interesting, but not exactly what I expected. I guess I expected it to follow 2 penguins through the mating habits. That would have been good, but all the Empire Penguins look the same so it would have been impossible. It truly is amazing how these animals survive. 100 below 0 in the winter and they come through it, all the while not eating anything for up to 4 months. The can walk over 70 miles one way to the mating grounds. We humans have it pretty easy compared to the penguins.
The food at the Cinema Cafe was good. The pizza was nice and cheesy but a little greasy.

The week before the first week of classes is over. YAY!!!!!!
The first week of classes looms large on Monday. I am trying to figure out how nicely rude we can be to the undergrads.
Orientation went alot better than expected even though it was long. I am not used to 13.5 hour days. It was fun and spent most of the day with a sugar rush as Witha brough in Krispy Kremes. My idea for getting people moving around worked wonderfully.
Have a nice relaxing day planned as I am along for the ride with MR to Fredericksburg.

Work this week reminds me of why I have to work rather than wanting to.
Why is it that other people ignore signs all the time but the 1 time I do it I get a ticket?
Why is it that everyone in the world feels they are special enough to not have to take a test that is required?
Why is it that Va. Beach is now whining that they are going to lose Oceana when they have been warned time and time again about it?
Why are some military so obnoxious?
Why can’t I win the lottery tomorrow night?
My hair is really short, I am not sure I like it.

No, I am not eating cereal, but that is the sound my neck is making at the moment. This is going to be a long week. Classes start again on Saturday. The crisis people are starting to really get into panic mode.

MR and I went to see John Hammond last nightl at the American Theater. It was a really good show but alot different than what I am used to. My concerts, people are up dancing, singing along, and alot of audience and band interaction. The crowd last night stayed seated and gently bobbed their heads along with the music. John Hammond is a good blues singer/player. I was quite fascinated that he and the drummer, were basically doing something with both hands and feet for every song. I know I couldn’t do that.
We ate dinner at Topeka’s Steak HOuse and we timed it just right. Apparently there was a lighting problem, as half of the restaurant was almost dark. Being just 2 we were seated quickly, but larger parties has long waits.

MR made me a microwave peanut brittle last night and boy is it yummy. Witha couldn’t keep her hands off of it today. PHB will be back tomorrow and I know it will all be gone shortly after he gets there.
Celtic Mama and Gym Mom are terrorizing San Antonio for Piper Boy’s graduation from Boot Camp. Celtic Mama is one of the most directionally challenged people I know.
I want the next 2 weeks to be over with quickly. If this afternoon was any indicator, we are going to have our hands full.
I really need to clean out my wallet and purse. Might find some scary things in there.

but I paid over $20 to fill up my gas tank today! ERRRRGGGGGG! I have a small car, that sips gas instead of guzzling it. I was lucky though. I filled up this morning at $2.49 a gallon, by the time I came home it was 2.61 at the same gas station. Good thing I didn’t wait.
