Happy Birthday sounds better when sung in Italian!

Posted in Food at 11:20 pm by Think-Tink

7 of us ate at Romano’s Macaroni Grill tonight. This is the first one in our area and just opened up. The prices were reasonable, and the food was very good. Lots of food, the only thing that could have been better was Celtic Mama’s Pasta nacho things. There was alot of pasta and not alot of “stuff” on them. The calimari was done just right and the sauces were good. My cheese ravoili was good.

Dessert was opened up with the waiting singing Happy Birthday in Italian. Somehow to me, everything sounds better in Gaelic, Spanish, French or Italian. I could probably be cursed out in one of those languages and still like how it sounds. My birthday dessert was this huge chocolate cake that Celtic Mama and I had a hard time finishing.

Overall, this has been one of the better birthdays for me. The day was great as I did some shopping with Gym Mom, Piper Boy, and Celtic Mama, saw Gym Rat and Crash, and saw how good Gym is getting at gymnastics. I also got some presents (or the promise of presents) that I really wanted. Definitely a top ten day.

PS Thanks for all the good wishes everyone!

It’s my birthday so I won’t be around today.

I am taking off from work, going to play with Gym Mom and Celtic Mama, and maybe Piper Boy if we can get his butt out of bed.

Hoping to make it down to the Oceanfront today at some point. It is supposed to be gorgeous.

I got 2 of the bestest present this morning! PoloRandy gave me the mattress pad I have been asking for as I have a mattress that might be almost as old as I am. SilverBlue, migraine and all this morning, gave me a wireless music adapter. This little device will let me play my MP3′s in my car even though I only have a cd player and no cassette player. Most of my mp3′s are at work so I will play will the Revog MP3 this weekend. (note to Revog: this device does NOT count in what I told you about computer parts as gifts. Routers are not presents, toys for the car are :) )

A cookie to keep in the pantry

Posted in Food at 9:42 pm by Think-Tink

I just tried the Pepperidge Farms Nantucket Soft Baked cookies. These are awesome! All of the good things in one place. A soft chocolate chip cookie with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. I am a very big fan of dark chocolate. The package says to microwave for a few seconds for an out of the oven freshness. That could be really dangerous.

Questions!

Posted in Round the Blogosphere at 10:27 am by Think-Tink

The Bunny, herself asked questions of me. What can I do but respond…

1. I understand you have a dislike for canned veggies, even those delictable new Homestyle Carrots (you heathen!). Why is that?

Canned veggies, yes even the carrots, have a mushy texture to me and I can’t get around it. I like some crunch and such. The canned veggies also have alot of salt in them. I have a family history of strokes so I am trying to cut out salt wherever I can. If I cook fresh veggies, I can control the salt.

2. I’ve noticed you dining, more than one time, on carrots and cheesy popcorn. Do you think this is healthy? If not, what could be added to make it healthy?

Don’t the carrots make it healthy? I am trying to eat something like a salad before the cheesy popcorn now as to get some nutrition and maybe some protein along with the carrots and popcorn.

3. Celtic Music seems to flow through your veins. What turned you on and what keeps you interested?

Celtic Music as a genre can be a variety of different things. You have the rock of 7N, the more pop of GBS, the jazzy in Bad Haggis, the very traditional of the Cheiftains and Clandestine, I won’t even go in to the punk Celtic of Flogging Mollies. What turned me on was I listened to some 7N and the music was upbeat, talked about even though there were depressing times, things would get better. Most Celtic music is like that in one way or another. It has a nice beat under it all that makes you want to clap along with it. What keeps me interested is the evolution of bands like 7N, GBS, and a variety of others. As much as the radio seems to not want to admit it, something with a fiddle or bagpipe in it is becoming more main stream.

Job stuff on the mind

Posted in Job at 9:03 pm by Think-Tink

I had a busy day today. This moring was training, this afternoon was a recruiting event in the hopes more students would come to CHK, ensuring I have a job for a while longer. The event went fine and we talked with lots of people.

My though on it was I am scared if the people doing the recruiting can’t even manage to do the parking lot the right way. I read the signs in the lot we were told to park in, read the voucher we were given, and put my voucher in the little slot for my space, as in a self pay lot. The majority of others from other places of higher education did not do this. They left the voucher on their dash boards or some other place. It was kind of easy to figure out once you read of the signs and the voucher. Kind of makes you think about who is teaching future generations doesn’t it?

Why can’t training sessions be done by levels of familiarity?

Posted in Job at 8:31 pm by Think-Tink

I was in a training session today for a certain part of a job specific computer program. I can understand that everyone needs training, but in this class there were people with no knowledge of the computer program to people who, like myself, are very proficient with the program.

I am wondering why the group putting on this training couldnt have done a class for those of us who knew basically how to do the process as we had done something like it years ago, and nother for those who don’t use the program. We could have been there for 45 minutes for those of us who knew what we were doing.

I guess this is one of life’s mysteries.

Making sure the Blogosphere version of a chain letter lives another day

Three Questions

1. Ask me three questions (use the comments below, or send an email). These questions can be about anything at all. No subject is taboo.
2. In a future post (or posts if it takes more than one) I will answer your questions and be as honest as I can possibly be.
3. Along with your questions and my answers I will post a link to to the person’s weblog who asked me the questions.
4. After you ask me your questions cut and paste this text on your own weblog allowing others to ask you questions, which you will answer honestly in future posts (etc.)
The more people participate, the more it will spread.
Fun for all!

Stopping to smell the roses

Posted in Here at 8:17 pm by Think-Tink

As I was on my way to work today, I had someone who was so impatient to get around me, I was wondering if I was going to be hit. The person driving the truck was probably late or something. Then I get to work and read SilverBlue’s Blog. He has 2 very good posts from others regarding not waiting until it gets to be too late.

From there, I want to add, take time to stop and smell the roses. One of my great thrills in the Spring is to walk around and see what has come up from the ground or bloomed today. I have a tea rose that I am very happy to have kept alive for 3 years now. It is getting ready to bloom in all it’s glory any day now. I take joy in coming home each day to see if it has actually bloomed. Alot of people don’t take the time to notice what is around them. Look at Gym Rat, Crash and Piper Boy, they change each and every time I see them. Crash has just started lossing teeth and is very happy to show you her loosest tooth of the moment (Did you know that the tooth fairy now deals in dollars rather than quarters?). Gym Rat is become such an artist. Piper Boy is becoming a man right above my nose (he’s taller than me…). Be thankful to whomever you think is above us, and notice the world around you.

Dream Huge

Posted in Here at 8:38 pm by Think-Tink

People who have read this blog for a while know that I am trying to set myself some goals and figure out what path I want my life to take. I think I know where I want to end up, but don’t know quite how to get there yet.

Revog is complicating the issue for me even more with the very pretty birthday present she gave me. It is a piggy bank for savings, that doesn’t have a stopper so you are supposed to break it when you get ready to attain your goal. It is very pretty and I am not sure I will want to break it when I get that far.

I have started to put change in it, but am not sure what I want the goal to be. I was thinking of the possible trip to a Renaissance Festival this summer, but that doesn’t seem to be the HUGE that Revog asked me to dream.

Huge at this point would be a home of my own, paying off my student loans or even my car. I don’t think that much will fit into the bank. In other ways, huge might be saving to get a place of my own. I know that there will be deposits on electricity, phone, and apartment. I can hope for a place that the utilities are included, but those are few and far between. I could also see about saving to take a really good knitting class or some type of fabric dyeing course.

So what is huge? I know huge is a matter of perspective. Huge to some people might be going into a store and not having to think where the money is coming from to buy the food to feed their family. Others it might be getting a Dairy Queen treat on occasion. Other people might think huge is billions of dollars as they already have millions. To a child, huge could be getting to spend time with a loved one who might not always have time for them, or a tpy they have been wanting for ages in their mind. What would huge be to you?

Reminder of why the internet is good but in person is better

Posted in Here at 4:28 pm by Think-Tink

SilverBlue, PoloRandy and I met Revog and her beau in DC yesterday. With all the talking over IM and the phone, I didn’t realize how much I missed being face to face with her. Being face to face yesterday and this morning was really nice. I guess I am going to have to find somewhere closer to her to live or start making enough that I can start flying up and bothering her on some weekends.

We walked around parts of the Smithsonian and Potomac Mills yesterday. It was fun but it was nice having any real time constraints.

Revog’s beau is very nice. I am very happy with the way he treats her. Makes me kind of jealous in that I want someone like that. I hope SiliverBlue got a picture of the 2 of them together. I also hope she liked my presents. I still have a part to send to her also.

The funny part of the weekend happened when I bought a rose quartz and another crystal. I started to call these my rocks. Of course the women being out numbered 2:3 You can imagine the jokes about my rocks that came up. From there, I left them in Revog’s knapsack, so I hope she can mail them to me.

It was a great weekend, way, way to short. My only question now is where to next?
