Worth the read

Revog has written a wonderful entry. Very insightful and thought provoking in this election year.

What happens when one of your favorite lunch places gives you food poinsoning?

SilverBlue , myself and another co-worker went to a Mexican Buffet place today. We go there about one every week or 2. Today, it gave all of us food poisoning. We all managed to stay the day, but it was rough. I managed to keep down something for dinner. I hope it was a quick in and out thing.

I saw the upset of the Women’s Tournament tonight

Posted in Sports at 11:23 pm by Think-Tink

I saw the #7 seed beat the #1 seed! That’s right Minnesota beat Duke! As a member in good standing of the Any One But Duke club, I had no choice but to root for Minnesota. Duke played a good game, but I did not think it was the play of a #1 seed. Minnesota lead by half time, and kept it for most of the second half. Duke tied it a couple of times but they never got the lead back. I think the biggest thing was that for Minnesota it was a team effort, Duke’s reputation didn’t intimidate themm and they had nothing to lose. Duke had everything to lose.

Minnesota shut down All-American Alana Beard. I think she got a total of like 10 points all night. Minnesota had a really good game. When they had won, Minnesota went wild, as did their fans (which there were more there tonight than on Sunday, a rumor said that a whole plane was chartered.).

It does me good to see that the underdog does sometimes win. Sometimes it isn’t the school with the most money and big names. Sometimes expectaitons are meant to be not met. It gives me hope that in some of the things I do, that I can succeed, even if there are more important people out there than me.

Here I was being so good…

And then I had to watch the refs give 2 games away in the last 10 seconds to the favored teams not the teams who had earned the win or at least the overtimes (women’s basketball NCAA).

Then today, I didn’t have alot to do at work so I was looking at recipes alot of the day. That made me really hungry by dinner time.

THEN, I bought strawberries yesterday. Not good fresh picked local strawberries, but good strawberries.

This relates to chocolate because we have Hershey bars in the house. I started thinking melted chocolate on strawberries. YUM! So after going whole days without chocolate, I had 2 bars in various forms tonight. The chocolate dipped strawberries were wonderful.

Saw what March Madness is all about today

Posted in Sports at 8:26 pm by Think-Tink

The NCAA Div. 1 Mid-East Regional for women’s basketball was started today in Norfolk. I saw 2 awesome games. Both were closer than expected and could have been won by either team until well into the second half. I saw a team that expects to get to the final four win, and a #7 team beat a #3 team.

What amazed me was the fan support for all 4 teams that made it to the sweet 16. Both Duke and Minnesota, who were the winners today, brought alot of people. Raliegh is only 3 hours away and I can understand that one. Minnesota brought probably 3-4 buses worth of people. I am sure they flew, as I would not want to comtemplate how long of a bus trip that would be. These fans, commited 3 days to this. Games were today and the winners play on Tuesday. How many teams do you know of that would have fans commited enough to loose 2 days of work and pay for travel and hotel and food? Not alot around here.

Minnesota’s fans derve more of a tribute as they truly were the 6th woman for their team. Their fans, pep band and cheerleaders were so into the game that Celtic Mama and I wound up rooting for them and will agin on Tuesday night.

So far another chocolate free day

Posted in Chocolate at 8:39 pm by Think-Tink

I know today still has some time left. But so far, I haven’t given into the call of the chocolate. I did touch the one Dark Chocolate bar that I had forgotten about and had gotten pushed to the back of the freezer. I was going to break it into pieces and have a SMALL piece but decided I had better not or the whole bar would be gone.

Cash for me is the same way. I can have a $20 bill for a week in my wallet. Once I break it it goes before I realize it.

EWWWWW!

I have this awful cold sore that looks HUGE to me. I am going to try some home remedies before I try over the counter stuff. I feel like people are staring at it. Some webpages say to go ahead and pop it and others say don’t. I am going to try soaking it in listerine as one website advised. Other possibilities include tea bags on it and a variety of other everyday stuff.

Update:The listerine did try out the cold sore enough so that it would crack and pop on it’s own. I can deal better with a scab than I can an ugly huge zit looking thing.

Cupid with a Car

I meant to put another post in last night but just didn’t get that far. Piper Boy had asked me to take him to his girlfriend’s house. We left from work, I dropped him off and then went to a basketball game for 11-12 year olds. I can see where the dedication and talent start now.

SB, PoloRandy and I ate at Olive Garden. It was ok, but not up to what I remember Olive Garden being. It has been a few years since I have been in one. My fettucine alfredo wtih seafood was not in a nice creamy sauce. It was very greasy and mostly butter. PoloRandy said his lasagne was dry. The cheesecake was good though and since I have been craving some all week, it was very good.

I had agreed to picked Piper Boy up at 10. I don’t mind doing this at all because I know Gym Mom is really busy and she works nights. I got home about 11:20 and sat down to watch some NCAA basketball. Well, I woke up at 12:30. PoloRandy had nicely turned off the tv and the lights for me. I have no clue as to what time he went to bed. I got up, came to bed and the next thing I know it is 7:30 this morning.

How dare they!

Posted in There at 3:29 pm by Think-Tink

I get this post card yesterday in the mail. It says:
FINAL REMINDER
It is important that you call our office for important information regarding your vehicle.
A toll free number and some other information follows.

My first thought was to call the dealer and yell, because I have not received anything in the mail as something I had to do for the warranty (other than pay my loan). My car is almost a year old by this point (May 17 will be a year).

I called this morning and come to find out it is for the extended warranty that I refused when I bought the car because there was a lot the “extended warranty” didn’t cover. I said I had received the post card, and the CSR said it was for the extended warranty. I nicely told the CSR that I wasn’t interested and she asked why. I said my insurance gives me basically the same thing. She nicely said “Good Luck with your car” and I hung up.

I hate it when people send me final reminder notices as it is too reminiscent of the money problems and bill collectors that I dug my way out of about a year ago. I keep very on top of my bills and what I need to do for warranties. This is almost as irritating as the spam emails that said your order, payment due, etc. Good thing most of my spam goes to one email and my bill notices to another.

I don’t know if you have noticed…

but I am trying to talk less about my job. With everything that has happened to people because of their blogs at their jobs or hopeful jobs (Go read READ MY LIPS), I think it is safer not to say as much. I already don’t use names or exact places to help that fact.
