2 hours of my life taken for stupidity

Posted in Here at 8:41 pm by Think-Tink

I was being good. I did all those icky things like file taxes, get my city sticker (remind me to not get an account at Old Point Bank..not the nicest tellers I have come across), and get a prescription filled. All went smoothly, I am getting a tax refund, city sticker is on the car (almost straight), until I go to pick up the prescription.

I had the prescription tranferred to another store last time as the store I normally use was out. Well, I went to tranfer it back, and something went awfully wrong. The store I wanted to get it from never got the refill order. From there, when they did refill it, they gave me the wrong thing. OK, so there was 45 minutes there waiting for the prescription to get filled. I come home, knowing that 1) I didn’t pay the right co-pay and 2) the package was the wrong color. I compare to the empty package and find I got the right med but wrong amount per pill. So back I go to the store. Somehow, the other store filled the prescription again, and they had to go through canceling it out there and getting back here. EESH! The scary part was that more people than just me were taking a long time at the counter. I hope tonight wasn’t a normal night.

I am thinking I deserve a big bowl of ice cream for putting up with all of that and missing the sight of 2 Hummers here as SB and PoloRandy brought back PR’s boss’ new one.

Mundane task day

Time to do the fun stuff for the year. I have to file my taxes, go get my city sticker, and do fun things like that.

For those of you who don’t live in Virginia, a city sticker is another way that the cities and counties around here have found to get more money out of it’s residents. You pay $25-28 for the privilege of paying taxes to the city or county you live in. Then you get this cute little sticker that goes on the windshield that tells everyone where you live. It is also a pain to get off and on each year. Of course, if you don’t do it, there are fines and such to pay. Also, you can’t get your sticker until you pay your property taxes. Good thing I only have a car.

OK, off to hope someone can get me a sticker today…

More about last night

The Jeff Greer Band played at White Horse Pub last night. (Ok, a pub in a mall…weird place for it but it works) They were good, as fitting their last performances ever. Chain Mail, Punchbuggy and I had a good dinner and I got my Welsh rarebit sauce and chips (fries). It’s not a trip to White Horse without chips and cheese.

The band packed the house so much so, that there was a line to get in, when we left after the first set. I am sure tonight is going to be worse. The band played most of the songs I wanted to hear during the first set.

Had fun

Went to the pub tonight. The band was in fine form. It will be sad to see them go, but $5 cover is a bit much for a band that comes down all of the time. Punchbuggy and Chain Mail joined me, and we had good food and good entertainment.

More coming on this tomorrow.

A day for lots of chocolate…

Posted in Chocolate at 10:01 pm by Think-Tink

but I only had a little. REALLY! Honest!

I come into work this morning to find that I truly am the only one in the office who knows how to run a certain program’s reports. Good thing nothing with CHK is usually urgent. I ran the reports, did more than was asked and then asked for something I KNOW I only do in the Fall, but PHB swears we do it semester by semester. If he says so…it’s not hard to do but does take time. BB will be taking Friday to “work from home”. This is how NHB started, first it was Fridays, then Wednesdays, then only coming in 1 day a week.

I then play telephone tag most of the day with a student who all I needed to know was when they wanted to apply for. BB is learning, but sometimes for me it is frustrating.

The women’s team had a game tonight and they won. They didn’t take the lead until 4 minutes left in the game. That is highly unusual for us, especially at home. I guess my meds are working as I was able to save my voice tonight and not yell and scream. I showed alot of restraint as there were alot of fould not called that should have been.

Tomorrow night is a Pub night! It’s been a while since I have been there. I am defintiely looking forward to it. White Horse Pub is alot of fun, especially like it will be tomorrow night with a live band. The Jeff Greer Band will be performing for their last 2 performances Friday and Saturday night. It is expected to be SRO.

A day of rest

Posted in Here at 9:00 pm by Think-Tink

After being off on Monday, fighting through yesterday with no voice and it being hard to understand me, I decided to take today off and give my voice a break. I slept most of the day, so I don’t know alot of what is going on in the world.

Daytime TV is still pretty bad. Thank goodness there are enough channels to surf through to put on something you can sleep through. Today’s choices were Food TV afternoon shows, Hollywood Squares and the hours and hours of news the local channels seem to show from 4ish to 6:30. Hollywood Squares isn’t like the show I remember. I thought it was pretty risque to be shown at 4pm. The show Calling All Cooks has 2 hosts that I just can’t seem to like. They act so stupid in the kitchen like they have never been in one and have been doing the show for years. Food Finds is interesting though, they show some new and interesting food items, some I do wonder how they are shipped safely though.

I have gotten most of my voice back now, so off to work tomorrow unless I wake up and can’t move, whihc I seriously doubt will happen.

Back to work, no more play

Posted in Here at 8:47 pm by Think-Tink

Today was busy at work and lots of fun. I still don’t have a voice and was whispering for most of the day. Makes people really pay attention to what you are saying. I might have to whisper from now on.

The roads are better than yesterday, adn there were lots of stories of people getting to campus and realizing there were no classes. The school was going to open at noon yesterday, and then closed completely. I bet someone will be getting complaints over that. I think alot had to do with all the schools being closed and parents just taking the day to watch the children who were also going to be home. Hampton/Newport News got alot more snow and cold than the Southside did. We have snow still on the ground 2 days later going into day 3. An old wives tales ays the snow is waiting around for more to join it…

The perfect way to spend today

Posted in Weather at 8:22 pm by Think-Tink

I spend most of the day on the couch, with a good book, a quilt and watching the world slip and slide by. I did go for a walk, the road is a sheet of ice. It was fun though to see the kids out trying to sled on our slight incline. Snow is so pretty when it is pristine. When it gets dirty though UGH!

Tomorrow morning should be interesting for those of us living on the Peninsula. We did not get anywhere as warm as the people on the Southside did. I am sure CHK will be open. When I get there on the other hand is up for debate.

I still have no voice. It will be fun at work tomorrow for me, as most of my job is talking. We’ll see what the morning brings…

Snow Day!

Posted in Weather at 11:01 am by Think-Tink

I got my snow day today! We started out with CHK going to open at noon, but someone decided to be smart and close us down like the rest of the schools in the area. I don’t think we would have gone in anyway, as it hasn’t gotten above freezing over here yet.

I am going to bundle up and go throw salt over the front porch and steps so we at least make it down safely. I might clean off my car too, just in case more comes along tonight.

I don’t plan on doing alot today, working on Mom’s afghan, and taking something that will get me my voice back. I seem to have lost it again.

Wintry Mix

Posted in Weather at 9:11 pm by Think-Tink

I guess the weather people call it a wintry mix when they aren’t sure what we will get but they know we will get something. We have had snow most of the afternoon and evening, and are now getting either sleet/freezing rain/ice (how do you tell the difference?). This is supposed to continue until sometime tomorrow. Good thing I foiught the grocery store today.
