Happy New Year!

Posted in Here at 10:25 pm by Think-Tink

Just a little melancholy right now…

I am not going to post resolutions as LeeAnn did or wishes for the new year as Revog did. Just about everyone has some type of new year post, like SilverBlue, Ted , Tiger , Dawn, and many others (I do hope Susie starts to feel better.) I know I am not where I wanted to be to start off 2004. It has got to be a much better year than 2003. Alot happened in 2003 and not all of it was good. I am looking at alot from the point of it is doesn’t kill you it makes you stronger. I am very thankful for all of my family, blood and otherwise, have a roof over my head, a decent car, and a somewhat decent job. I am at least in a better position than I was starting off 2003. I guess that is something.

I can’t move to Canada (most parts).

I also can’t move to the very NorthEast US (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire). There are no KrispyKremes ! The people don’t know what they are missing! a nice hot freshly glazed doughnut ranks only second to chocolate for mood altering. One of my childhood memories is taking the hour and a half trip to Richmond just to get Krispy Kremes since that was the closest factory store to me. Ahh, to not to have to worry about what I eat agian like when I was little. My mom used to worry that I wasn’t eating enough since I was so skinny.

Revog has relented

The impossible has happened! Revog, has thrown out make up and bought new stuff. When I was in Rochester for Thanksgiving we had a discussion on make up and how long you can keep it. Well, let’s just say hers was ALOT older than you are supposed to keep around. Her theory is that if there is some in the packet, it is good. The experts say usually make up needs to be tossed between 6 months to a year depending on what it is. This is because of the germs that we apparntly have on our skin and the chemicals in the product. Thank goodness for Revog’s neighbor who works at a store for makeup and skin!

Should have stayed up.

I should have stayed up to read my book last night. I might have gotten more sleep. I don’t know what was wrong, but I just couldn’t get comfortable.

My New Year’s Eve is going to be simple, staying here, not doing a whole lot. I wasn’t invited anywhere, and with PoloRandy and SB going out I will have some quiet time. A nice long bath might be in order.

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Hmmm, read book or sleep

Posted in Here at 8:48 pm by Think-Tink

I am a huge fan of Nora Roberts. Her latest, Key of Valor, came out today. It shouldn’t take me long to read it, but I am seriously debating if I can finish it tonight or not. I should probably try to sleep at some point. It is truly a good thing I have tomorrow off. I know of people who hav e stayed up to watch the first showing of Lord of the Rings and other movies. This isn’t really anything different.

Eye Doctors and getting glasses

Posted in Here at 4:53 pm by Think-Tink

My insurance majorly changed in July to something that makes it worthwhile to use it for eye exams and glasses.

I get into the eye appointment and actually had a good time. For some reason, I felt alot more comfortable with this eye doctor than others and we even talked about non-eye related things. He was very thorough and made sure to look at the bloodshot right eye really good (no I wasn’t hung over). Official cause “Nothing”, how to keep it from happening again: wear my contacts less, he thinks.

I want to start wearing my glasses more to give my eyes a rest. From there, I had a list of things that I wanted to make this doable, some type of sun glass, the antiglare coating and scratch resistance. Well, the office attached to the doctor’s office seemed to be priced really high. I almost got my glasses from there but decided to do some more pricing. The other factor involved was that the sales person was not exactly rude, but not being helpful either. They basically wanted me to say ok to whatever they thought I should get. I was definitely on a budget for this. Basically they saw they could get alot of money out of me and were going to try to get as much as possible. I decided if this was the service I was getting before the sale was made, they would not do anything for me if I have problems further down the road.

I went to Wal-Mart of all places, and got everything I wanted in glasses, even a stylish frame, and it cost me less than the first place wanted for just the lenses and frames. The people were really helpful, even let me know that the transitonal lenses don’t work in the car (why I wanted them), showed me some frames with the sunglass attachments (insurance paid more for that than the transitional lenses), and took the time to find out what I needed and wanted. I was really impressed.

The songs of the season

This definitely isn’t one…Silverblue has been singing THIS song (not kid or work friendly, drink alert also) since his father sent it to him BEFORE the Christmas Party…I will admit that it does make you laugh and take your mind off you problems for a few minutes.

I am growing old and cynical

I was reading the news this morning and came across this. I am very sorry that 7 young people lost their lives.

I guess where I am having a problem is with some of the comments from the friends and family…7 kids ALL without driver’s licenses were allowed to borrow friend’s cars for joyrides? On highways? I grew up in farm country and had friends who were driving the farm vehicles around the farm since they could reach the pedals. The kids in this accident were on real roads with real cars, and the parents let them do this. If I were a police officer and I saw a car weaving in it’s lane, I would attempt to pull it over also.

What would have happened if these kids had hit and killed someone else? Who would be responsible? The person who gave them permission to drive the car for their “joyride”, the parents, or would it just be a case of “oh well sorry whoever died but we aren’t responsible”?

I guess the more I see of this type of thing the more I wonder where the parents are, what they are thinking when they know something like this is happening and are continuing to let it happen. If I ever get to the point of being a parent, I hope to be concerned enough to make my kids mad at me for not letting them do something that “everyone else is doing”. I know my mother did. Now, I am very glad for it too.

Hmmm, maybe I should listen more often

Posted in There at 8:48 pm by Think-Tink

I have started taking a new medicine that one of the side effects is it either makes you not sleep or very tired. Well, I am getting the tired without the sleepiness from it. Today was a mostly make phone calls type day. I did all of that this morning. This afternoon, I decided I was going to crochet and take it easy. When my body said sleep, I did. I guess I should listen more especially right now that I have the time to take naps. Maybe I will be able to get a good night’s sleep tonight. I was up until midnight last night listening and watching my Great Big Sea DVD (yes, again!) because I couldn’t sleep.

I only went out of the house today to go to Walmart with SB. It’s nice not to spend more time in line than you do in the rest of the store.

A little late with this

As I have talked about before, the trials of the Northern Virignia Snipers were in this area. Lee Boyd Malvo, the at the time 17 year old, was tried as an adult. I posted that he had been found guilty, but probably would not get the death sentence. On the Monday before Christmas, he received his sentence of life in prison…but this is only for the death of one of the 11 people killed during their spree. Malvo might head to Alabama now for trial see here for details. It is sounding possible that Mr. Muhammed and Mr. Malvo could face trial on all of the murders.

I can not see how they thought they could take innocent lives and get away with it.
