I think it comes down to not really caring anymore. What happens happens. Thanks for the comments, glad to know I am not the only one out there that feels that they are just working for a pay check. I used to think I wanted to make a difference, but that has majorly slipped by the wayside. I was busy all day today, darn that having to work while at work stuff, leaves no time for fun stuff like blogging. I didn’t even get my personal emails read at work!
Other than that, I am off for the weekend, we got paid today and I am indulging in MAJOR retail therapy tomorrow! I also get to meet Dawn, Kadi, Maddie and a few others that SB and I read about. My housewarming gift turned out pretty good, especially for a first attempt and kind of going without a pattern. I hope the colors go with “chaos and catfood”.
My nephew went on a real date tonight. He turns 17 on Tuesday. He is taller than I am (which isn’t hard at all me being 5′”2′). I don’t know who allowed him to grow up but they need to quit it…I am not old enough to have a 17 year old nephew! I am proud to say that he is turning into a fine man. He is taking college courses in addition to being home schooled, has a good GPA, is a talented piper and I could go on forever. Other than a girl, what do you suggest for a 17 year old for his birthday? I am thinking gift certificate but usually don’t like giving those since they seem so impersonal to me.
This post is why my title is Flitting Here and There. I just usually try not to do it all in one post

I feel like crying and I am not sure exactly why. I am almost at the point of tears and can’t figure out what exactly has brought me to this point.
I became very disappointed in a student today and I know that that plays a part. The student cheated on a test and got caught on video tape. Plain and simple. Part of me can’t believe this student would stoop that low. I guess desperate times called for desperate measures. That might be what started it off, then from there, my co-worker had to leave early, so did my boss, so yet again I was alone in the office. Welcome back, Tink.
From there, I got tasked with filling out the EEO forms to interview for my boss’ job. I can’t fill out the forms since no one has responded yet. We send out letters saying we got the resumes and then they are supposed to fill out and mail back (to EEO) a form with gender and such on it. The form I have to fill out asks me about minority and gender, things we aren’t supposed to consider when looking at resumes of people to interview. We don’t even get the forms back, so how are we supposed to know what our candidate pool is like? Major catch-22. I guess whatever psychic ability I have is supposed to work in this case. Also, my boss thinks we can have someone hired and starting to work by Dec. 1. Apparently his 10+ years at CHK haven’t made him realize that things just do not move quickly there.
I was trying to figure out why I keep working there and the best answer I can come up with at the moment is a paycheck. I really don’t like going into work anymore. I keep wondering if there are major things that are slipping by me, that is going to come back to bite me.
So I guess I can consider today a pretty sucky day at work. Another part is that I am tired still. My voice is coming and going. I wish I could just cry and get it over with.

I have more of a voice, do not have to be under layers of quilts to be warm, and I can keep my eyes open for more than an hour. Guess I’ll be going to work tomorrow.
I have such wonderful people around me, SB , Revog , Punchbuggy and Roxette Bunny nurse extraordinaire. She doesn’t make me drink the hideous stuff she makes SB drink when he is sick, since I realize I am human and don’t fight (much) when I am told to rest, or not to go to work or stuff like that.
Day 2 of daytime TV was as bad as day 1. People actually like Dr. Phil? Where does he find these people? He basically said common sense stuff but gave no real solutions that I could see. Cut back on the schedules for over worked mom’s DUH! He doesn’t say how to figure out what can be cut out. I might have missed something as I feel asleep both days during his show.

I am staying home yet again today as I feel better but not up to a whole day at work. I can at least keep my eyes open for more than a few minutes at a time. I finally found a tea misture I can drink, honey, lime juice and sometimes rum. That mix seems to be helping more than any of the over the counter stuff I have taken. This is either a bad cold, or allergies plus a migraine. Those who know me, know I don’t stay home from work for 2 days (I have to be almost dead to stay home for 1).
Everytime I stay home I find that there is crud on for daytime tv. I could watch soaps, but somehow I can’t get into them even though my family has watched them for years. I love the 80′s strikes back is on, but I seem to keep seeing the same years over and over.
I hope SB is better…he worried me yesterday. I haven’t seen him that despondent in ages. I think PoloRandy, SB and I all need our retail therapy session coming up on Saturday alot.

I am staying home to rest the voice since I HAVE to be at work for a 4pm meeting tomorrow. Got the sinus thing going on right now, so I am trying to decide if I should take something, or do lemonade with rum or something of the like in it. Either is going to knock me out. WE’ll see…

going to go to bed. SB fed me some wonderful soup for dinner. Lots of garlic and such to help out and break the gunk up. I have no voice at the moment and SB is making fun of me because I squeak rather than talk. Guess if I can’t talk, I shouldn’t go to work tomorrow. If I don’t feel better I probably won’t go in. I am going downstairs to get the cure all for all types of colds and allergies, a nice shot of rum or whiskey. I am not sure what we have down there so, not sure what form it will take. Hot toddy or just a shot.
Have a wonderful evening and give someone you love a hug.

Mom and I had a leisurly breakfast and read the paper. We were waiting for a friend to show who normally cancels on me. Well, we didnt find out she had cancelled until after I talked with her mother and got out to the car and found out I had messages on my cell phone. (My cell phone doesn’t work in the 1928 house with solid plaster walls).
Mom and I made really good time back up to Richmond. We saw Charlie Zahm again, then Jeff Greer Band came on. Jeff Greer Band has improved quite a bit since I first saw them about 2 years ago at White Horse Pub. They are innovative, creative and do the “standards” in very unique ways. You haven’t heard Loch Lomond (you take the high road, I’ll take the low road song) until you have heard it done the Celternative way. The best thing about their set was they did “Devil went down to Ga.” as their closing song. Their fiddler Laura, was excellent as usual. They made the song their own and definitely not country. They rocked it!
For the third time of the weekend we saw something called a Ferret Legging. Apparently, in Medieval times, ferrets were used to help the peasants poach on the Lord’s land. Basically a ferret is put down pants leg (no undies) and it is allowed to wander up and down. It was hilarious, but the lady doing the MC’ing didn’t change the build up at all so by this time we were over it and wanted 7N to come on stage.
7N came on stage about 20 minutes late, but they were there. I was concerned about this as they were in California on Sat. for something called the Breeder’s Cup. They did an acoustic show that was great. They did my favorites, Scream, Our Day Will Come, Up to Me, and more. They did some really good instrumentals and during one of them, the fiddler, Dan, danced. He is a champioship step dancer from Canada. He is also a championship Fiddler too. As a whole, 7N is a very talented group. They write music, have on stage personality, and seem to get along well. There were jokes about the drummer’s (Crisco) dreadlocks, the dancing contest, and more. Considering that they hadn’t slept Sat. night, it was a great performance, as usual. I took pictures, but somehow the camera slipped from automatic mode to manual so alot of my pictures are blurry. They played Our Day Will Come as the encore. and that truly made the day for me as that is my all time favorite of theirs. After the show, despite the drizzle, all 5 band members stuck around to sign autographs. Other than the 3rd grade teacher getting the bra that she had on signed, my request to be signed was probably the most unusual. For about a year, my license plate was about 7N. Due to strange people starting to know my plate, and some other issues, I didn’t transfer the plate when I bought my new car. So, I asked all of the band to sign it for me. They all did quite willingly, and thought it was cool. Alot of the fans around me did too.
Oh! one of the other best parts were some of my internet friends from 7N and Great Big Sea message boards were there. Some people I hadn’t seen in over 2 years. It was great!
After a quick dinner at McD’s Mom and I headed home. It was a great weekend, but really long and we were tired. Mom says she didn’t doze on the way home but I KNOW she did.
Back to the real world now…

I am going to try to make this coherent, but pardon me if it is all jumbled. Let’s see…
Saturday morning, I was up bright and early and Mom, Piper Boy (my nephew) are off the Richmond for the Richmond Highland Games and Celtic Festival. After all of us thinking the other printed out directions and taking the right exit the wrong way, we get to the fair grounds (other wise known as Richmond Raceway Complex AKA the VA. State Fairgrounds) right exactly on time. The people at the gates, pull us over to the side since, my ticket was at Will Call and so was Piper Boy’s. Well, the idiot who was “helping” us forgot he had pulled us over. I got out of my car and basically stopped traffic until someone helped us. Finally someone helped us and found out that yes, my ticket was also at will call, but the OTHER will call window, at the complete other side of the fair grounds. Someone in charge just takes my print out as verification and lets us go through.
We find the band tent. Piper Boy is in a youth pipe band here. He goes and checks in and has to compete almost right away. We spend the morning listening to him and talking to other band parents. I have been traveling with Piper Boy so much that I am considered his “pseudo-parent”. Piper Boy gets a third and a 7th or 8th.
After watching Piper Boy, Mom and I wander around. We had the normal food, like kettle corn, but new this year was someone actually frying pork rinds up close and personal. They had a sample plate, and not being one normally for pork rinds, I will have to say that these were good.
Mom’s favorite singer was there, Charlie Zahm. He was as good looking as ever. He has an absolutely beautiful voice.
After we watched Charlie Zahm, it was time for the opening ceremonies and massed bands. This is always an awesome sight. WEll, we were early and got to watch the men throwing things part of the Highland Games. We watched the North American Championships for Heavy Athletics. We were watching the stone toss for distance. These competions are also where the men throw trees, in skirts even!!. I can tell you there is nothing sexier than a man in a kilt with major muscles. These men were throwing a “stone” which is approx. 20 lbs. They were throwing it over 100 feet too.
OK, the massed bands came out and it was great. It seems Mom and I always seem to be on the opposite side of the band. I hope my pictures came out.
After Opening Ceremonies, we wandered over and gave Piper Boy some food. He seems to forget to eat at these things since there is sooo much to do. Of course, Pringles (road trip food of choice), a slimfast bar, and a root beer aren’t exactly healthy but better than nothing. And at 17 he can handle a day or so of something like that.
We wanted to see the band compete so we parked ourselves on the bleachers for that competition. No one told us it was starting an hour late. We waited, talked to some nice people. We saw the band, (I hope my pictures of this turn out as well) and saw a few after that. Then it was time to return to the Pub (music) tent.
Oh! I forgot! IN the morning, we walked by the Dewar’s tent. They are always really nice and give samples to those of us over 21. Well this year’s sample choice included something that isn’t out in the stores yet, but when it is, I am going to have to get it. It seems that the Irish will no longer corner the market on the whiskey and cream market. Dewar’s is coming out with a scotch and cream called Sylk. It is great! I am definitely getting some of that to replace the Irish cream that went bad with Isabel.
OK, back to the afternoon. We saw part of Jeff Greer Band, they get better each time I see them. The Glengarry Boys came on. I tried to call SB since he couldn’t be there and likes them so much. I have free cell minutes on the weekend, so I was just going to hold my phone up for the whole hour. I couldn’t hear him answer the phone so I thought he didn’t answer. The Glengarry Bhoys were good. Lots of energy, amazing talent, and had a good crowd. They do a song called Over The Mountain that pulls my heart strings every time.
Back for closing ceremonies, we became MacGregors (clan names usually go through the mother’s side and because of that I am a MacDonald. I am Welsh on my father’s side) for the closing ceremonies as we know/like them and they had seats available.
Our band didn’t win, the smurfs with money for everything that we don’t have, including all matching kilts, won. We weren’t last at least though. This was the band’s only competition for the year. They have had alot of new kids this year.
From there, it was time to go home. We took Piper Boy home and then Mom spent the night here with me.
OK, I am really tired. I will write about Sunday and SEVEN NATIONS tomorrow, in What a Weekend! Part 2

I will be off to see Men in Kilts. OK, old men who are 10 months pregnant in kilts are pretty scary, but usually there are enough young ones around to make up for it in the eye candy department. (Yes, real men DO wear kilts!) I will be gone most of the weekend, only coming home to collapse and do it all again on Sunday. I am pretty excited. Ok, I am not excited about getting up at some awful hour on a Saturday morning to get my nephew, Piper Boy, up to Richmond to compete on time, but there will some awesome music, good food and lots of people to see. Only thing to make it better would be an unlimited budget for all the vendors. My mom who is also going with us, like a gentleman named Charlie Zahm. He has this awesome deep baritone (I think) voice that is wonderful to listen to. His Christmas cd is awesome!
The best part is that I will be seeing the Glengarry Bhoys tomorrow, and Seven Nations on Sunday! I am also going to be meeting some friends from around the state who are also going to Richmond. I am hoping that 7N will be willing to sign a license plate I used to have. It is GON2C7N. Here’s for hoping….
